Amber Davies recalls 'out of body experience' of drink spiking and being rushed to A&E

Amber Davies has bravely shared her 'scary' experience of having her drink spiked and being rushed to hospital as part of a ground-breaking new initiative.

The Love Island star was victim to a terrifying drink spiking incident during a night out in North Wales in 2018, which she has since called an "out of body experience." Amber shot to fame in 2017 as the winner of the third series of the ITV dating reality show alongside her then-partner, Kem Cetinay, after the pair delighted viewers with their adorable relationship.

However, shortly after reaching huge reality fame, Amber's drink was spiked during a night out which "took a turn for the worst" and she was rushed to A&E. The reality TV star has now revealed she couldn't recall the exact details of the incident, admitting that the evening was all a blur for her and could only be described as an "out of body experience."

Speaking to MailOnline about the traumatic event, Amber said: "I got spiked - god I think it was about five or six years ago now."

At the time of the spiking, Amber's cousin was nearby in a pub and was able to call emergency services for her distressed relative. Reports suggested the Love Island champion was seen 'stumbling and screaming in a car park', before collapsing outside the Plough Inn at St Asaph, North Wales.

"People came out of the pub to help her and put her in the recovery position," a source told the Sun at the time, before recalling that Amber "was screaming like she was in agony" during the scary incident but "no one saw her taking drugs". Reflecting on the disturbing experience today, Amber said the night had started out as "nice" but quickly "took a turn for the worst."

"That's how it happens! What they did was they called emergency services straight away and that's the best thing to do," she advised. "At that point I don't think anybody knew what was going on – we didn't know if I'd had a bad reaction to food, we didn't know what was going on."

The 27-year-old has since gone on to build an impressive career as a West End actor, landing roles in everything from Bring it On! to Back to the Future. Amber is now using her public platform to raise awareness of spiking, teaming up with Malibu on their Stamp Out Spiking campaign to train 2,000 festivals, bars, clubs, staff and customers to know what to do in a spiking situation. She hopes that by sharing her ordeal with others, she can help people recognise the signs of it the criminal offence and protect themselves and their loved ones.

"I have seen first-hand that when faced with a spiking situation, people are often unsure what to do or where to begin. Reflecting on my own experience, it would have been so reassuring for me and my friends to have had access to B.A.B.E.S, so we have created these practical and memorable steps, that means everyone can look out for their besties," she said.
