Dancing on Ice legends will make a surprise cameo on Emmerdale this Christmas.
The ITV soap has announced that legendary ice skaters, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean, will appear in a very special Christmas episode from the Dales this year, with filming having taken place in Leeds.
The skating legends - who will front a new series of Dancing On Ice next year - took to the ice to help a much-loved Emmerdale character with a festive marriage proposal, with Torvill and Dean excited to star in one of their favourite shows.
Christopher Dean said of his Emmerdale cameo: "It is amazing being here. We have jumped from watching Emmerdale on TV to being in a scene. From the screen to the scene. I’m loving it," whilst Jayne Torvill added of the pair's stint on the soap: "I can’t wait to watch the episode that we are going to be in. It will be surreal sitting at home watching it."
Emmerdale Producer, Laura Shaw, added: "We are delighted to welcome Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean as our very special guests to Emmerdale. Torvill and Dean certainly promise to bring the Christmas magic sparkle to the show."
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesEmmerdale is lining up an "edgier" Christmas this year, Laura recently confirmed, whilst Matty Barton actor Ash Palmisciano has teased exclusively to The Mirror that the aftermath of the crash will rumble on until Christmas.
"It's gonna impact the village hugely and I'm not just saying this, we've got Christmas on the way and we're starting to film that now. Something happens after the crash that you will never expect, a character who is potentially not involved at the moment gets involved and so much stuff happens, there's some fan favourites involved in this story and at Christmas it's gonna be big," he said.
Producer Laura also teased: "Heading up to Christmas we’ve got some exciting plans but I have absolutely, definitely been sworn to secrecy on this one! What I can tell you is that the last couple of years, we’ve kind of done a light, fluffier Christmas for Emmerdale, but this one is quite different in tone. A lot of it is edgier for us for Christmas and I can tell you that definitely not every one of our villagers will be sat down eating their turkey with all the trimmings on Christmas day."
There will also be a prison twist for the soap's New Year offering, as Laura revealed what's to come at the start of 2024 for the ITV soap: "We’ve got tragedy striking one family in the new year. We’ve got one or two of our villagers getting into very serious trouble, at least one of which may end up with them being sent to prison, but we’ll see!"
