Morrisons has announced that it will be giving its customers 5p off each litre of fuel at the pumps this January, as another way to help households with the ongoing cost of living crisis.

Running until Sunday January 15, customers who spend over £35 in-store will receive a voucher that they can then redeem at one of Morrisons' 339 petrol stations across the UK.

If you don’t need to fill up your car within this timeframe, don’t worry, Morrisons said you have until Sunday January 22 to spend your voucher.

The supermarket introduced the offer to help households save money on “one of the biggest expenses” it said people across the UK were currently facing.

To get the petrol voucher, you will need to spend £35 at a Morrisons supermarket. However, some items and services are not included as part of the total of your shop.

These include fuel, tobacco, lottery products, Morrisons Café, gift vouchers and cards, infant/formula milk, cash back, dry cleaning, fireworks, online games and instant tickets, photo printing, saver stamps, postage stamps, ‘Top-Up’ mobile phone cards, delivery charges/pass, garden centre, and pharmacy.

If you are making one of these purchases in-store, you will need to take this into account, and maybe pick up a few other items to reach the £35 total so you don’t miss out on the petrol voucher.

Rachel Eyre, Chief Customer & Marketing Officer at Morrisons, said: "January is always a financial squeeze after the expense of Christmas and this year we know the cost of living continues to impact customers’ pockets too.

"Our fuel offer aims to help budgets go a little further by providing a saving on one of the biggest expenses people across the UK are facing."

Morrisons said the offer cannot be redeemed at any franchised Morrisons Daily petrol stations, so make sure your local petrol station can accept your voucher before heading down.

You can find your local Morrisons petrol station and shop using the supermarket's store finder on its website, and you only need to enter your postcode to find information about the sites closest to you.

This isn't the first time Morrisons has offered this 5p petrol discount to its customers. It also did in September last year, when UK fuel prices were much higher than they are now.

In July last year, petrol prices peaked with the average cost of petrol hitting 191.53p per litre, while diesel was less than 1p short of being £2 per litre.

Prices have since come down since the peak last year, and the RAC's Fuel Watch has recently forecasted that petrol, diesel and super unleaded prices could “fall sharply” in the coming days and weeks.
