New York Jets running back Breece Hall was furious with his offensive teammates on Monday night, and told those who aren't pulling their weight to "grow up" after another disappointing loss.

The Jets lost 27-6 against the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium on a dismal night for their offense and special teams, and for the third time in four games quarterback Zach Wilson failed to throw a single touchdown. The Jets went three-for-17 on third down, and failed to convert on the two occasions they found themselves in the red zone.

After being ruled active wide receiver Allen Lazard was penalised three times on the offensive line which hurt their progression, but while not naming names, Hall was adamant that "one or two" players are letting them down every time. He was angry in the locker room, and let his feelings out to reporters as the team's three game winning streak came to an abrupt halt.

"We just all have to grow up, man, one or two people killing the play. Just grow up, do our jobs," Hall said after the game. "It’s frustrating because we have to come out on the field and show it. Help Zach (Wilson) out some more. I take pride in that too, I got to be better."

The inconsistent Jets are 4-4 this season, and have beaten Super Bowl contenders such as the Philadelphia Eagles and the Buffalo Bills. In fact, the only loss on the Eagles' 7-1 record came against the Jets, as their defense continues to perform at championship level, something Hall is aware of.

"It sucks. I know It’s true. We've (offense) got to do better and not be the reason we lose." The three Chargers touchdowns on the night came via running back Austin Ekeler who helped himself to two, and also an 87-yard punt-return from Derius Davis in the first quarter.

Although they conceded 27 points the Jets defense embarrassed Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert on the night who went 16-for-30 and just 136 yards. But they were exhausted due to the offense continuing to send them back out onto the field with an inability to get anything going as an attacking unit, and at the one-yard line Ekeler is almost impossible to stop.

The Jets defense has gained a reputation as one of the best in the league, but defensive tackle Quinnen Williams still believes they need to sharpen up as their tendancy to start games slow continued, forcing the team to spend the rest of the night making up for mistakes. "Just need to execute and communicate more," Williams said after the game.

"Doing the necessary things we can do on a Wednesday, Thursday, a Tuesday, to take a step ahead and come together as a team, as a defense. We've got to execute and communicate at a high level so we don’t have these mishaps in the first and second quarter."

The injury to Aaron Rodgers was a major blow to their offensive hopes for the 2023 season, but that was back in Week 1 and the team have had months to create a plan and work out how to win games. The Chargers were far from their best on Monday, but still managed to score 27 points and only allow six against a team that's averaging just 14.4 points per game, exactly three points fewer than last season.
