A cake decorator has left royal fans seeing double with her remarkably realistic sugar rendition of King Charles.

The monarch's head and crown was recreated in cake and sugar paste by talented baker Emma Jayne, who spent hours painstakingly fashioning every line and crown jewel to scale. Using Rice Krispies and marshmallows for the base, she sculpted his face with modelling chocolate.

Charles' glittering crown was adorned with 2,500 zodiac crystals, each one carefully placed by Emma, while the edible parts of the crown are the large ruby and sapphire, made from tempered sugar isomalt and sugar paste. She even meticulously fashioned strands of hair right down to the King's eyelashes out of wheat strands.

The mum-of-three from South Wales, spent five days constructing the crown, admitting his eyes were the toughest part to get right. She will now work on completing the King's body using 60kg of sugarpaste.

Her amazing creation will be displayed at the Cake International event at the NEC in Birmingham, starting on Friday. Emma said: "King Charles's eyes were the most time-consuming part of the cake."

She explained how she used modelling paste, hand painting, and piping gel to create the fully edible eyes. They were put in an air fryer in dehydration mode for a whole day to dry out the gel and create a lifelike, glazed look.

She added: "His eyelashes are made from individual strands of wheat painted with edible colouring and individually placed on his eyelids with precision and care." Emma emphasised the importance of this lifelike detail, especially when representing the King, and expressed her excitement for people to see it up close.

It's not the first time the royals have been recreated in edible form for the international baking event. In 2018, an extremely realistic rendition of then-nuptials-to-be Harry and Meghan was created for the show.

Lara Mason spent 250 hours making the incredible cake, which recreated the couple in full size. Enough to feed 500, the impressive showstopper was made using 300 eggs, 15kg of flour, 15kg of butter and 15kg of sugar.
