Matt Hancock has decided to shut down his dedicated smartphone app and shift his focus to TikTok.

The disgraced former Health Secretary said it was time to "bid a fond farewell to the 'iconic' Matt Hancock App", which he set up five years ago to update his constituents.

The app drew mockery at the time - and sparked concerns about privacy after it emerged that the app allowed access to users photos.

Mr Hancock joked that the news will "come as a blow to those who can't remember life before the app" but said he would be posting regularly on TikTok instead.

In a post on the app, Mr Hancock said: "After almost 5-gloriously fun years, it's time to bid a fond farewell to the 'iconic' Matt Hancock App - a platform that secured multiple exclusives, including my backing of Rishi Sunak for PM.

"For those left wondering where they can get my latest updates, I'll be keeping you posted on TikTok."

He added: "Thanks for the memories and see you all soon."

The MP for West Suffolk is standing down at the next election after seeing his hopes of a return to the Cabinet fade.

Instead, he hopes to forge a new career following his stint on I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here.

The Mirror revealed last month that Mr Hancock wanted to start a TV career after being stripped of the whip by the Tories for going on the reality show.

He has suggested he could become a host of documentaries on subjects including dyslexia and assisted dying.

Mr Hancock recently held discussions with showbiz pals on who should represent him as he sought to cash in on his I'm a Celeb notoriety.

But he has now abandoned his search for an agent.

A spokesman for Mr Hancock said: "Matt has had lots of offers from agents wanting to represent him, but he's turned them all down as he doesn't want or need an agent."
