Fish and chips, bacon and eggs, and bread and butter, have topped a list – of the 50 best combinations of all time, a study has found.
The poll, of 2,000 adults, revealed that 88% feel there are some things in life are just better as part of a pair – like tea and biscuits, strawberries and cream, and burger and chips.
In fact, nine of the top 10 combinations on the list were food pairings – with popular crisp flavours including salt and vinegar, and cheese and onion, also ranking highly.
In the celebrity world, Brits believe you can't have Del Boy without Rodney, or Ant without Dec – while The Two Ronnies are also seen as a package deal. And animated favourites that are better together include Wallace and Gromit, Shrek and Donkey, and Mario and Luigi.
The research was commissioned by Kellogg's, to launch the Kellogg's Kombos Café, where customers can pick from 25 iconic Kellogg’s cereals, combining their top two for a fun and tasty take on the breakfast favourite.
Ryan Reynolds mispronounces name of new Wrexham signing in hilarious videoA spokesman said: “For so many things, a combination of the two is often much better than when it’s on its own. You can combine all of the best bits of the different things you like, and save yourself a whole lot of time trying to choose between the two.
“Foods are often combined together to mix the taste or texture – and many love to do this with their cereal. Why should you have to pick just one?”
The study also found that such combinations also stray into Brits’ own lives, with 47% of those who eat cereal admitting to mixing two different types together – and 29% even admit to doing so as an adult.
Nearly half (46%) think it tastes better that way, while 40% do it with two options that complement each other.
Others simply think it’s a fun thing to do (32%), enjoy the different textures (24%) – or can’t decide which one to pick (22%). And one in 20 (5%) even mix four or more different types of cereal together.
Nearly two-thirds (63%) of the cereal combiners polled, via OnePoll, went as far as to say they love doing so – with 35% so keen on it, they have recommended it to someone else.
It also found 87% adults tuck into cereal – but while 91% opt to have it the “traditional” way, for breakfast, 34% turn to it when they want a snack. And 13% make up a bowl for lunch, while one in ten do the same for dinner.
A spokesman for Kellogg’s added: “For many, breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and we don’t want it to be boring.
“Mixing your cereals can brighten up your day, so we wanted to make it as easy as possible for people to tuck into their two favourite cereals in one bowl.”
