Chris Olave was arrested on Monday night after being found to have been driving 35 mph over the speed limit, before telling the police that he plays for the New Orleans Saints - with the officer not being impressed.

The Saints wide receiver was driving through the suburbs of New Orleans when he was stopped for driving 70 mph in a 35 and was charged with reckless driving.

Olave was arrested at 9 p.m. CT by local police when he was stopped for "recklessly manoeuvring" through lanes while driving way over the limit.

When Olave realised he was being arrested, he told the police officer: "I play for the Saints." The officer replied: "And?"

A statement from the Kenner Police Department read: "Officers clocked a Dodge Charger traveling at 70 mph in a posted 35 mph zone. The distance from where the vehicle turned off from Williams Boulevard and where the vehicle was clocked at that speed was only a two-block distance.

"The vehicle was observed traveling in a reckless manner manoeuvring between lanes and around other drivers."

The recording also shows Olave taking accountability for speeding, as he states: "That's on me. I was just trying to get home."

Olave was booked into jail and released around two hours later just before midnight.

After the incident, he tweeted: "Damn crazy world".

The Saints have not yet made comment on Olave's arrest, or if he will face punishment from either the team or the NFL.

The second-year pro is the leading wide receiver for the Saints, after being a first-round pick in the 2022 draft from Ohio State.

Olave racked up over 1,000 receiving yards in his rookie season and has started his second year strong with 471 yards and 39 catches through seven games. Olave also leads the NFL in targets without a drop this season, with 67.

The star wide receiver will be needed for the team throughout the rest of the season, with it struggling to a 3-4 start after losing to the Jacksonville Jaguars on "Thursday Night Football."

They will face the Indianapolis Colts this weekend, with it being unclear on whether Olave will be available for the team.
