Paramount+ has launched a brand-new horror series that is perfect for a Halloween binge. The Burning Girls dropped on the streaming platform on Thursday (October 19), and offers an eerie folk horror vibe that will get viewers well and truly in the mood for spooky season.

The six-part British series takes place in a quaint English village haunted by a dark and turbulent history. It is based on British author C.J. Tudor’s 2021 best-selling novel and adapted for TV by Marcella creator Hans Rosenfeldt and writer Camilla Ahlgren.

The Burning Girls has earned positive reviews since its release, with The Telegraph describing it as Broadchurch meets The Wicker Man. Some fans have even taken to social media saying it is so “creepy” it left them “spooked”.

Here, we break down everything you need to know about The Burning Girls.

What is The Burning Girls about?

The Burning Girls centres on Reverend Jack Brooks, a single parent haunted by a tragedy from her previous church who bears the onus of her husband’s death. Along with her teenage daughter Flo, Jack moves to the small Sussex village of Chapel Croft in the hope of a fresh start, but they soon find their new home is rife with conspiracies and terrible secrets.

Soon after arriving, the pair learn the village has a grisly history, as two young girls were burned at the stake almost 500 years ago and that Chapel Croft and its inhabitants have suffered some spooky goings-on.
