The King and Queen have been warned to expect a loud disturbance at Royal Ascot next year by an owner if his horse wins.
Clive Washbourn is renowned for his wild and noisy celebrations at the races, even when his horse only finishes second. In France on Sunday his jubilation could be heard over a large area of Saint-Cloud racecourse after his horse Caius Chorister won the Group 3 Prix Belle de Nuit by four lengths.
Chelsea fan Washbourn had spent the weekend in Paris where England suffered a last-gasp defeat to South Africa in the Rugby World Cup semi-final the evening before.
Jacketless, with flat cap and braces, he told Sky Sports Racing: “Unbelievable weekend. We cried for England and how we let two goals in to the Arsenal, I will not know. The Caius has murdered them. We love it! We love racing! Vive la Republique!”
Washbourn, who runs an insurance underwriting business, went on: “Isn’t she fantastic? I bred this girl. Her dam Corpus Chorister is still the two mile record holder at Beverley.”

The filly, who was ridden by Oisin Murphy and is trained in Sussex by David Menuisier, will be aimed at the Ascot Gold Cup, Royal Ascot’s oldest race next year.
“This horse next year will take all the beating in the Gold Cup and the King has to put up with my celebrations,” said Washbourn. “Get in there, my son!”
There be more to come from Washbourn this weekend with his two-year-old Devil’s Point is set to contest the Group 1 Kameko Futurity Trophy Stakes at Doncaster.
“If you think this is a celebration, when we do everyone in the Futurity, which we will, the celebrations are going to be huge.”
