A young man and woman have been hospitalised after they were attacked by two dogs as they tried to stop them fighting.
The pair, both in their 20s, were left with serious injuries after they attempted to separate the vicious hounds at property in Campbell Close, Hereford, shortly after 5pm on Sunday.
Police rushed to the scene after they were called to reports of the beasts scrapping with each other. Officers seized a dog from the address.
The dogs, from the same home, knocked the woman to the ground and left her with facial injuries. The man endured a hand injury as he tried to break them up.
A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "Earlier this evening, officers responded to a report of a dog-related incident which caused injuries to two people in Hereford. The incident took place at a residential property in Campbell Close, Hereford, at around 5.15pm on Sunday, October 22.

"A man in his 20s suffered a hand injury attempting to separate the dogs and a woman, also in her 20s, suffered facial injuries after being knocked to the ground. They have been taken to hospital. The dog which caused the injury to the man has been recovered and is currently secured at kennels."
It comes following a spat of reported dog attacks in recent months with calls to impose restrictions on breeders and owners. Vet Emma Chandley recently shared the subtle signs which can detect whether a dog is likely to become dangerous.
“All dogs have the potential to be dangerous. Some dogs are more likely to act dangerously than others. This may be due to their breed and genetic makeup. It may be a behavioural issue influenced by their upbringing, disciplining and training (or lack of),” she said, on behalf of Perfect Pet Insurance.
"Dogs that won't share their toys and growl if other animals or humans touch their toys are more likely to show aggression. If the dog is nervous outside and chases cars, other animals or members of the public jogging or on a bike - this is a warning sign that the dog is nervous and dysregulated.
"If they pull and lunge at other dogs or humans when they are on the lead or show aggressive tendencies towards strangers this is also a red flag. They may be overly protective of their owner or growl or lunge if their owner interacts with another dog or human. They may feel extremely threatened when they are in the car and people pass them."
