Princess Beatrice's name had to be changed after Queen called it 'too yuppie'

With each royal baby who makes their debut, we then have the baby name wait as months of speculation and bookies' tips reach a fevered peak.

The whole reason for this wait is because an "informal discussion" takes place between the new parents and the Queen, in which she gives their name choice her blessing... Or, in some cases, not. Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte's names were announced two days after their birth, and Prince Louis’ name was announced a full four days after his birth.

But by royal family standards, four days isn't actually that long. Back in August 1988, the Duke and Duchess of York welcomed their firstborn - a baby girl we all now know as Princess Beatrice. It took two weeks for Prince Andrew and Fergie to formally announce her name, and the reason is the Queen wasn't sold on their first choice, according to The Sun at the time and as later reported by 9Honey.

Fergie had her heart set on naming her daughter Princess Annabel, but Her Maj's feedback, apparently, was that the name was too "yuppie". But it seems as if what the Queen takes away with one hand, she gives with another - she then suggested Beatrice, believed to having taken inspiration from the name of Queen Victoria's youngest daughter, and the rest is history. Beatrice's full name is Beatrice Elizabeth Mary, with her middle names paying tribute to her grandmother and great-grandmother.
