A hungry household were left shocked as police came to the rescue and delivered a KFC takeaway to their home in Devon.

Expecting their food, they got a knock on the door from cops who had stepped in after the delivery driver had a run in with the law and saw his uninsured car seized, reported the Daily Star.

The driver, en route with the KFC fast food, was pulled over by the police after being caught speeding through Newton Abbot.

And then the car was subsequently seized after it came to light that it was uninsured.

But dedicated local officers refused to disappoint and continued the fast food's journey themselves via a member of their neighbourhood team - and all in good time too, arriving hot.

Later in the evening, Newton Abbot Police took to social media to warn residents of the consequences of not having the correct policy or no insurance at all.

The statement read: "On Friday this vehicle caught officers attention whilst speeding through Newton Abbot, it was on its way to deliver some food but the driver didn’t have insurance so the car was seized.

"Luckily the KFC was delivered by our neighbourhood team so it didn’t go cold.

"We dealt with many vehicles on the same evening all of which were either not insured at all or incorrectly insured so please check your policies so you don’t end up with 6 points on your licence and a £300 fine.

"It's illegal to drive a vehicle on a road or in a public place without at least third party insurance."

It continued: "Even if the vehicle itself is insured, if you’re not correctly insured to drive it you could be considered to be driving without insurance and could get penalised.

"You also need to check your insurance covers you for the correct use. If you're using your vehicle for business purposes this won't automatically be covered.

"Not all insurance policies renew automatically so always check the details of your policy and when it ends."
