If you were someone who tried jumping into the new Diablo 4 Season 2 as planned you will have encountered a few issues, most of which are now resolved.

The planned Diablo 4 Season 2 start time did not go ahead as planned last night after Activision Blizzard imposed a delay due to technical issues. The new vampire-centric season is only the second for Diablo 4 and should have gone live at 6pm BST / 1pm PDT / 10am PDT yesterday. In reality, players weren’t able to jump in until roughly two hours later than planned. All major issues seem to have been resolved and Season of Blood is now underway, but it’s admittedly a rocky start for what should be a comeback after Diablo 4 Season 1 disappointed.

Word that the Diablo 4 Season 2 start time wouldn’t go ahead as planned was confirmed by the official Diablo Twitter account, which posted: “we've encountered some complications and will be delaying Season of Blood’s start time a few hours to remedy these issues.” This quickly ignited a raft of player complaints who were greeted by login errors. Two hours later a new tweet confirmed that “Season of Blood is live” but that crossplay between consoles and PC would be paused due to ongoing tech issues.

As it stands currently the latest Diablo game’s new season is up and live, yet there’s no denying it’s been a tumultuous launch. After jumping in proper players soon noticed issues when trying to receive rewards with the new Diablo 4 Season 2 battle pass and Seasonal Journey. Quite a large part of a season is the cosmetic items you gain, so them not being dished out to players properly was a major flaw. However, in the hours since Activision Blizzard took to its own forums to make known that an update was rolled out to address this.

A hellish start

Following the constant fumbles of Diablo 4 Season 1, this new season was Activision Blizzard’s chance at redemption. So far, however, it’s been a very shaky start, and one that could have probably been avoided had the game patched in an offline mode to avoid these server-related woes. Alas, Diablo 4 continues to very much exist as an online-only live-service game, which is great for making the world of Sanctuary feel more alive but sucks during times like this where a season switch occurs.

First revealed as part of Geoff Keighley’s Gamescom Opening Night Live show, Diablo 4 Season 2 allows players on PlayStation, Xbox and PC (now including Steam) to enjoy an all-new vampire storyline that brings with it new rewards, a new questline and new vampiric powers. It comes just under three weeks out from Activision Blizzard’s own fan event, BlizzCon 2023, which is scheduled to take place between Friday, November 3 and Saturday, November 4. Here's hoping all ongoing technical issues can be resolved before then.
