The second series of Netflix smash-hit Wednesday may not air on the streaming platform.
Fans of the coming-of-age supernatural comedy horror, which stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, were delighted when the first season of the Addams Family spin-off landed on Netflix in November last year.
Critics rushed to praise the eight-part series as Wednesday surpassed Stranger Things to score the most viewing time in a single week for an English-language series on Netflix – with it quickly assumed a second series would almost certainly be following.
But any future offerings from Wednesday could premiere on a site or platform other than Netflix.
Despite the staggering success of the show, which saw Tim Burton act as an executive producer and direct several episodes, Netflix haven't officially renewed the series for a second outing.

Jenna Ortega's interpretation of Wednesday Addams has gone down well with fans and criticsNetflix will surely be keen to keep Wednesday on their roster, but the streamer may not have a choice in the matter due to the fact Wednesday is a Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) product.
As reported by Deadline last year, Amazon and MGM closed an $8.5bn (£7.06bn) merger – meaning the rights to Wednesday may be up for grabs.
Essentially, this means the second series of Wednesday may find itself premiering on Amazon's streaming platform, Amazon Prime, if Netflix fails to strike a deal with Amazon to keep the series on their own platform.
Jenna recently spoke about the huge success of the first series of WednesdayWhile Wednesday is yet to be officially renewed for a second series, the show's producers are said to already be on the lookout for new filming locations and sign up writers to work on new episodes.
Scream actress Jenna, 20, was already a rising star before landing the titular role of Wednesday, but has been capitulated into the global spotlight thanks to the success of the Netflix series.
Speaking recently about how much Wednesday is adored by fans and critics alike, Jenna – who also appeared in Netflix drama You – admitted she had no idea the show "would be so popular".

The actress went on to explain that she put a lot of pressure on herself to create her own unique version of the role.
She added: "Christina Ricci is a legend," Jenna said of her Wednesday co-star who played her character in the 90s.
