Sonic the Hedgehog’s latest 2D platforming adventure is about to launch, so we’ve done the math on when you can start playing with the confirmed Sonic Superstars release time.

It’s not every day you get both a new Sonic the Hedgehog and Super Mario game launching in the exact same week, but that’s what can happen in such a stacked calendar year for game releases as 2023 is. Alas, Nintendo Switch players are left waiting until Friday, October 20 to play Super Mario Bros Wonder, but Sega’s next adventure for the blue blur launches a lot sooner – tomorrow, in fact. And if you want to know the exact Sonic Superstars release time, rest easy knowing that this has been confirmed.

Sonic Superstars is very much a homage to the classic style of Sonic the Hedgehog games, returning the series back to its 2D platforming roots rather than going open world as we saw last year with Sonic Frontiers. It’s the first original Sonic the Hedgehog game since the utterly excellent Sonic Mania launched in 2017. And while it’s not without its issues (as pointed out in our review) Sonic Superstars is still a fun time, feeling much more like the true Sonic the Hedgehog 4 we deserve.

Sonic Superstars release time – consoles and PC

As this is a multiplatform release, the Sonic Superstars release time differs slightly depending on whether you plan on picking it up on PC or consoles. Its release date is Tuesday, October 17, but here’s a full breakdown of when you can start playing Sonic the Hedgehog’s latest depending on your preferred platform.

On PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo consoles, the Sonic Superstars release time is set for Monday, October 16 at 9pm PDT, or Tuesday, October 17 at 5am BST / 12am EDT. For PC players, Sonic Superstars will release on Monday, October 16 at 8pm PDT/11pm EDT, or Tuesday, October 17 at 4am BST.

As you can see, select players in the United States will be able to jump into the colourful adventure slightly sooner than the official Sonic Superstars release time due to differences between time zones. Those playing on PC instead of a PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo console, meanwhile, gain access roughly an hour earlier again.

Sonic Superstars marks the hedgehog’s first adventure since Sonic Frontiers received its free post-release DLC, The Final Horizon, back in September. The install size for the game spans anywhere from 4.1GB on Nintendo Switch, all the way up to a still modest 20GB on PC. That means, you won’t have to wait very long to start playing the game, even if your time zone sits on the later end of the confirmed Sonic Superstars release time.
