The hotly anticipated return of Frasier is finally here, as one of the mainstays of 1990s TV returns to screens. Kelsey Grammer’s titular psychiatrist is back for a long awaited reboot, picking up where we last saw the character almost 20 years ago.

A spin-off from iconic 80’s sitcom Cheers, Frasier aired for 11 seasons between 1993 and 2004. It followed psychiatrist Dr Frasier Crane as he left Boston for his hometown of Seattle and hosted his own radio show.

Dominating the 90s US sitcom boom alongside shows like Friends and Seinfeld, Frasier was highly regarded and bagged a then-record 37 Emmys throughout its decade-long run. After years of rumours regarding the character’s return, a revival series was officially announced in 2021.

The new series sees Frasier back where it all began in Boston, with “new challenges to face, new relationships to forge and an old dream or two to finally fulfil”. Now a retired psychiatrist, Frasier looking to be closer to his son, Harvard drop-out Freddie.

Grammer is set to reprise his role, but with two pillars of the original series notably absent. Frasier’s no-nonsense father Martin and his uptight brother Niles – played by John Mahoney and David Hyde Pierce respectively – do not appear in the new series.

Mahoney died in 2018 and Hyde Pierce chose not to return for the revival. In their place are a host of new characters, with Freddie (Tenet actor Jack Cutmore-Scott) starring alongside Niles’ son David (newcomer Anders Keith), who was born in the original show’s finale.

Nicholas Lyndhurst – Only Fools and Horses’ Rodney – also joins the cast as Frasier’s old college friend , now a university professor and drinking buddy. The series trailer also has a new recording of the show’s original theme song, Tossed Salads and Scrambled Eggs, and a promise that there are “no more callers” but “all new hang-ups”.

So if you’re keen to see the return of one of the most beloved sitcoms, here’s how you can watch the new season of Frasier in the UK.
