A disused IKEA has become the unlikely site of one of the world's largest nightclubs - with a capacity that dwarfs Wembley Arena.

Just 12 months after closing, the Swedish furniture giant's north London warehouse has been reinvented as Drumsheds, the capital's newest superclub. Once the scene of family daytrips and easy-assemble houseware, the 608,000 square foot site is now home to scantily-clad exotic performers, chain-link dance platforms and a state of the art 48-metre-long LED screen.

Inside, the building's roots still remain, with the car park, loading bays and sprawling showroom spaces still intact, but cleverly converted to host floor-fillers rather than flatpack furniture. Saturday night's launch party saw the sprawling venue transform into a thronging disco that took over the hangar-sized main room and spilled into two further more 'intimate' spaces.

The latest project from Broadwick Live, the team behind the much-missed Printworks nightclub, and London festival Field Day, Drumsheds' opening night was glitter-spangled affair led by club legends Jocelyn Brown and Evelyn 'Champagne' King - singing live alongside revered disco band La Discotheque Orchestra. DJs Gilles Peterson, Kenny Dope and Norman Jay completed the starry line-up alongside the likes of Anish Kumar and Jazzie B.

X room - the sprawling, high-ceilinged main space of the Drumsheds site - boasts the capacity to host 15,000 people - overshadowing other venues in the capital including 10,250-capacity Alexandra Palace and 12,500-capacity Wembley Arena. The Y room carries the same spacious, industrial feel but on a smaller scale with room for 5,000, while in the 'intimate' X-room things get up close and personal with a capacity of 1,000.

As well a series of clubnights, Drumsheds also promises to serve as a multi-functional cultural space fit to host festivals, exhibitions, private parties, culture & ticketed events, fashion, awards & dinners, filming, photography and set builds.

Located in north London’s Meridian Water, which is only 4 mins from Tottenham Hale on the Victoria Line, Drumsheds is easily accessible via tube, rail and buses.

What's on?

Drumsheds will open its doors every weekend until December 16th where the Autumn/Winter season will climax with a special night hosted by Más Tiempo, the house music label from acclaimed British rappers Skepta and Jammer on December 16 with both stars in attendance.
