Corrie’s set tour has upset visitors by going cashless in a move critics said would have show legend Ena Sharples “raging from her grave”.

Fans of the ITV soap checking in for the £35 studio visit cannot buy anything – from a cuppa to souvenirs – unless paying by card. It is a blow to older visitors in particular, who are less likely to carry plastic. One fan wrote on Tripadvisor: “Cashless to buy anything – even a cuppa! That grates me.” Another added: “Would’ve been nice to use cash instead of card, which I didn’t have. So I couldn’t buy anything for my family.”

The Payment Choice Alliance’s Ron Delnevo said: “The good name of Coronation Street is being dragged down by forcing visitors to go cashless. Ena Sharples will be raging from her grave.”

The Salford studio started tours in 2018. Operator Continuum Attractions was approached for comment. Following a petition to make it unlawful for shops to refuse cash, the Government con-firmed in April it does not plan to mandate cash acceptance.
