An upskirting pervert banned from every McDonald's toilet in the UK has been caught again at a shopping centre.

Asere Shumba “stalked” several women around the restaurant and proceeded to film them for his own sexual pleasure. The 28-year-old of Sinfin, Derby, kept his identity hidden by wearing a Covid mask to avoid being identified on two days last month.

He fixed a camera case under his shirt during the offences. DerbyshireLive reports he addressed the Derby Crown Court from prison and insisted he was not a danger the public.

He said: “I am not a danger, I will not physically hurt anyone, I can be a normal member of society.” Recorder Michelle Heeley KC, who jailed him for 18 months, said: “You must be sentenced for an offence colloquially termed ‘upskirting’ where, in September of this year in a shopping centre in Derby, you took photos of a number of different women. You were partially disguised wearing a Covid mask. You were also found to have a phone case glued to the inside of your shirt.

“One of the victim’s impact statements demonstrates how your actions have affected her. She is autistic and she says that has been made worse by your behaviour. This is not the first time you have committed this kind of offence and behaved in this way.

In February, the same court heard how Shumba's last offence saw him caught by a female staff member in the cubicles of a ladies' lavatory at McDonald’s in St Peter's Street. At that time he was banned from entering every toilet of the popular fast food chain as part of his punishment for taking seedy photographs.

They included one of women in the toilets of a branch of a McDonalds in London and in in the former Walkabout bar in Derby. Sam Jones, prosecuting said on two days in September of this year, the defendant was caught “stalking” women around a shop at the Derbion centre. He said a security guard at the store spotted Shumba wearing a Covid mask and a green head covering and initially thought he was a shoplifter.

The prosecutor said: “It became obvious he was going around the store putting a phone camera on the floor and was appearing to film (up the skirts of) female customers. He saw him crouched down behind a female, moving the phone back and forth.

“He was videoing the female, following her around the shop, and the defendant then repeated it (the offending) on another female. He got right behind her and appeared to be filming her buttocks.

“(The security guard) informed both the victims and their families and he was approached outside the store by a group. When they did his eyes were widened in fear and he bolted out of the centre. (The guard) reviewed CCTV from the previous Sunday and spotted the defendant targeting another seven victims in total.”

Shumba from Derby pleaded guilty to filming another for sexual gratification (upskirting) and breaching a sexual harm prevention order which was handed to him as part of his punishment for previous offences.

Lauren Fisher said her client wanted to address the court himself, which Recorder Heeley allowed, asking him what he had to say about his crimes. Speaking over a video link he said: “It (the offending) was a little thing which grew and has taken over my life because it (the previous convictions) were so public.

"I am pretty sure that once I am out of here (prison) it is not behaviour I will do again. I am not a danger. I will not physically hurt anyone. I can be a normal member of society."
