David Beckham has admitted he feared his children would grow up to be "little s**ts" because they were born into fame and fortune.

The 48-year-old was brought up in a working class household by parents Ted and Sandra and admits he worried about how his own offspring would turn out as they experienced a very different childhood to Becks. But, in his new Netflix documentary Beckham, he says he is proud of his four children; daughter Harper, 12, Cruz, 18, Romeo, 21, and Brooklyn, 24.

Beckham said: "We have tried to give our children the most normal upbringing as possible. But you have got a dad who was England captain and a mum that was Posh Spice. And they could be little s***s and they are not. That's why I say I am so proud of my children and I am so in awe of my children the way they have turned out."

Minutes later with wife Victoria hugging him at their Cotswold home he added tearfully: "The most important thing to me is what we've got." The former Manchester United footballer makes the comments in his new four part Netfix series. The final episode also highlights the ups and downs of his marriage to Victoria. Whilst they will celebrate their 25th anniversary next year they hit a crisis in 2004 when former assistant Rebecca Loos claimed she had an affair with Beckham.

In the documentary Victoria said of the tricky patch in their marriage: "It was the hardest period for us. Because it felt like the world was against us. And here's the thing; we were against each other, if I'm being completely honest. " She also says she "resented" David at times and describes a period in Spain as "the most unhappy I have ever been in my entire life".

Beckham never mentions Loos by name or confirms any of the allegations made but said: "There were some horrible stories that were difficult to deal with. It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage. Every time that we woke up we felt you know, there was something else and you know, I think we both felt at the time that we were, not losing each other, but drowning.

"There were some days that I would wake up and think how am I gonna go to work? How am I gonna walk onto that training pitch? How am I going to look as if nothing's wrong. I felt physically sick every day. When I opened my eyes. 'How am I going to do this?'." When the director asks how they survived, Beckham added: "I don't know how we got through it in all honesty. Victoria is everything to me. To see her hurt was incredibly difficult. But we are fighters. And at that time we needed to fight for each other, we needed to fight for our family. And what we had was worth fighting for. But ultimately it's our private life."
