Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James has issued a positive update about his son Bronny, after he suffered a cardiac arrest back in July.

James has achieved almost everything possible in basketball and the family legacy is set to continue with two talented sons coming through the ranks. Bronny made the headlines earlier this summer as he committed to play for the University of Southern California (USC) for his freshman year of college.

However, the 18-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest during practice and was rushed to hospital, being placed in an intensive care unit as testing began to determine the problem. Bronny was later discharged in a stable condition, with LeBron feeling 'optimistic' about his well being.

A statement was released on behalf of the James family asking for respect and privacy, but now LeBron has issued a fresh update about his son. According to the LA Times, James said: "Bronny is doing extremely well." He then followed that up by saying he plans to dedicate the upcoming season to his son.

This past basketball offseason has been dominated by Victor Wembanyama, with the French giant the most exciting prospect since James himself back in 2003. However, there are more members of the James family coming through, and when Bronny signed for USC it seemed inevitable that another star was on the way.

LeBron also has another talented, younger son, with Bryce James also getting a lot of attention for his ability at high-school level. But during an early practice for USC Bronny fell unconscious and received treatment after being rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

Bronny is now on the mend and the update from LeBron is very positive for the future, as he's still very much a future NBA prospect. And a fellow legend's son also claimed that Bronny would be just fine, as Shareef O'Neal - son of former Laker Shaquille - sent his support after going through a similar scare.

"He's good. I don't think it will affect anything," Shareef told TMZ when being asked about Bronny. Shareef is also following in his father's footsteps and looking to make it in the NBA but underwent open-heart surgery in 2018.

While a freshman at UCLA - a rival to USC - Shareef was told he had a cardiac issue and doctors performed the major procedure. Shareef made a full recovery and then transferred to LSU to continue playing basketball, and believes that Bronny will also be fine.

Bronny was not expected to declare for the draft until at least his junior year of college, giving him a few years to properly recover and work on improving his craft ahead of potential selection. Bronny has the best help around him, and LeBron is confident his son will be in a position to achieve his dreams.
