Incredible footage has captured the moment a drugs suspect - wearing slippers - leapt across a roof to escape police who had been raiding a cannabis farm.
The teenager made the sudden dash after noticing officers swoop on a semi-detached house, where they later discovered 60 large plants worth up to £50,000. Although the leap was successful, the escape was in vain as the young man was arrested in an adjacent garden in Cofton Hackett, Worcestershire.
The dramatic pictures and video, taken on Wednesday, show a man clamber out of a top window of a property and then jump onto a neighbouring roof. The suspect, wearing a tracksuit and grey slippers, was quickly detained. Officers found a further 198 smaller plants measuring 10cm high, which could be worth £1,000 each in a few months. Cannabis plants, along with cultivation equipment and a sophisticated electrical system, was also seized during West Mercia Police's operation.
Neighbours in the sleepy village, an ancient settlement at the foot of three hilltops in the Midlands, raised concerns about drugs and suspicious activity in the area, and police acted. A 19-year-old man, believed to be Albanian, was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis.
PC Rod Hartwright, of West Mercia Police, said: “The warrant shows we will not tolerate drugs within our community and will continue to act on information given to us about drugs. Drugs have a negative impact on our communities and can lead to other localised criminality and the harm and exploitation of vulnerable people."
