While the royals' public outings see them photographed from every angle, there's one in particular that most of the Firm tends to avoid - with the exception of Kate, that is.

The selfie may be one of the few aspects of modern life you won't see the likes of the King and Queen embracing any time soon thanks to unwritten royal rules. Prince William has even told fans he's "allergic" to them.

Their public engagements and visits often see crowds optimistically clutching their smartphones in the hopes of capturing the perfect Instagram snap, smiling next to the likes of William or Princess Royal. And although the vast majority of fans leave without a selfie, the Princess of Wales is one of the very few happy to get in the picture.

The royal showed her down-to-earth nature as she posed and smiled for a friendly snap with a fan on a visit to London youth charity, Streets of Growth, on Tuesday. She praised staff on the visit for going into the community to support vulnerable 15-25-year-olds.

She added she was keen to "connect the dots" with her work on the impact of early childhood experiences. The occasion, in which Kate chatted with workers supporting young people at risk of exploitation and violence, was by no means the first time she's happily stopped for a picture with fans, either.

Kate stood for a selfie with one member of the public during a visit to Liverpool in January, while one zealous fan was seen grabbing her for a shot during May's Coronation celebrations at Windsor. A royal visit to Leeds in January also saw the Princess of Wales happy to oblige to one man's request for a shot whilst walking around the city's indoor market.

While there is no official ban on selfies in royal protocol, several members of the Firm have been vocal in their dislike for them. King Charles famously shuns smartphones altogether, while Harry once jokingly reprimanded one member of the public for the habit.

In 2018, William once described himself as "allergic" to selfies while in 2015, Harry spoke of how he hated them and told a fan in Australia to just take a normal photo. He told her: "No, I hate selfies. Seriously, you need to get out of it (the habit), I know you're young, selfies are bad. Just take a normal photograph!"

The late-Queen was certainly not one for posing for a silly social media snap whilst on the throne. Two royal fans however hit headlines in 2014, when a carefully-timed selfie was photobombed by the smiling monarch.

Australian hockey team members Jayde Taylor and Brooke Peris caught an incredible picture as they posed for a snap celebrating victory against Malaysia in the Commonwealth Games, only for the Queen to flash a smile for the camera as she walked past during a visit.
