EastEnders has hinted at a potential exit for Alfie Moon amid his prostate cancer diagnosis storyline.
Viewers of the BBC soap have recently found out that Alfie had lied to Kat that he didn't have prostate cancer, and in fact had actually been diagnosed with the illness. Next week on the BBC soap, Alfie is struggling after his operation.
When Tommy has his debut fight, he is worried about Alfie turning up to watch. Phil promises that Alfie will be there, but he is struggling with his own feelings after cheating on his new bride Kat Slater. Phil heads to the hospital to pick up Alfie and bring him to the Boxing Den but it's clear that he's not doing well and needs some more time.
Alfie tells Phil that he needs some time to recuperate in Spain, whilst Phil returns home and tells Kat that he's worried about breaking the news to Tommy, unaware that Tommy knows all about it, having overhead them. Tommy lashes out, fuming at Alfie, but Kat tries to reassure him she'll be back. With all the disappearance acts he's done in the past, Tommy can't quite believe that would be the case.
When the storyline was first announced, it was confirmed Alfie's diagnosis would have a wider effect on his family and friends.
EastEnders' Jake Wood's snap of son has fans pointing out the pair's likenessChris Clenshaw, Executive Producer of the BBC soap, said recently of the storyline: "When we first embarked on this storyline we knew it was imperative that we worked alongside Prostate Cancer UK and Macmillan Cancer Support to take on and accurately portray such an emotional and pivotal storyline for Alfie, and one that many viewers may relate to Shane [Richie] has thoughtfully portrayed the realities of being diagnosed with prostate cancer with grace and understanding. We hope that this storyline resonates with the audience, and that we represent it as sensitively, and as accurately as possible."
