Mortal Kombat 1 officially launches this week on Tuesday, September 19 after giving pre-order players early access over the weekend, and here's when you can join the battle.

Mortal Kombat 1 is out this week, although it's been playable since last week via early access for owners of the games Premium or Kollector's Edition of the game. For everyone else (who didn't want to pay for the more expensive versions) the Mortal Kombat 1 release date is Tuesday, September 19.

The game is the 12th mainline entry in the series and marks a fresh beginning after Liu Kang became a god and restarted the timeline in Mortal Kombat 11 (you'll need to play Mortal Kombat 11 to get the full context for the reboot). Despite the name and the refreshed timeline, this Mortal Kombat 1 isn't a reboot; it's Mortal Kombat 12 in everything but name with the story directly following on from the events of Mortal Kombat 11.

Aside from the Story Mode, Mortal Kombat 1 also features the brand new seasonal Invasions which features a number of different maps and challenges. Plus there's all the the endless replayability offered by online and local multiplayer. Here's the Mortal Kombat 1 release time, preload info and file size so you can hop in as soon as possible when the full launch goes live.

Mortal Kombat 1 release time

The Mortal Kombat 1 release time at 6pm BST / 1pm EDT / 10am PDT on Tuesday, September 19. Mortal Kombat 1 preloads are live now on all platforms so even if you have the standard edition you can prime the game on your PC and console so it's ready to go on release. It's a fairly beefy installation with the Mortal Kombat 1 file size coming in at 114GB for the PS5 version, 100GB on PC, a whopping 140GB on Xbox Series X|S, and a slimmer 35GB on Nintendo Switch.

Mortal Kombat 1 preloads are live for those who have pre-ordered the standard edition of the game across all four platforms. Based on the massive file size it may be worth pre-ordering the standard edition so you can preload and start playing as soon as Mortal Kombat 1 releases.

If you bought the Mortal Kombat 1 Premium or Kollector's Editions, you'll have had access to the game since last Thursday, and while in most cases we wouldn't recommend picking up a premium edition just for early access this close to launch, the Premium Edition of Mortal Kombat 1 comes with the first Kombat Pack DLC.

The Kombat Pack includes six new DLC Fighters, five Kameo Fighters, 1,250 Dragon Krystals (the premium in-game currency), and a Johnny Cage skin featuring the likeness and voice of Jean-Claude Van Damme. Kombat Pack characters include:

Premium and Kollector's Edition owners will get one week early access to each DLC fighter before they're available as separate purchases. Past NetherRealm Studios titles have also extended this early access to the Kombat Pack if it was bought alongside the standard edition, however as that's not live yet we can't say definitively if that trend will continue this time.

The Kombat Pack will be available to purchase separately at launch, but as the game is not out yet we don't know the exact price at the moment. A page has gone live on the AU PlayStation Store which prices it at AU$59.95 (which is roughly £31.14 / $38.56, but keep in mind official pricing is rarely 1:1 with currency conversions).
