Nintendo Direct September 2023 rumours are hinting at a showcase next week

Rumours of a Nintendo Direct set for September 2023 are beginning to swirl, with some saying it could be as early as next week.

Nintendo Directs have been on a fairly consistent schedule since the launch of the Nintendo Switch. Not counting 2020 at the outset of the Covid-19 pandemic, and excluding game-specific directs like last weeks Super Mario Bros. Wonder Nintendo Direct there has been a general Nintendo Direct in February (or early March in 2018's case), June (usually as a part of E3), and September every year since the latest Nintendo console launched. So it's not a bad shout to assume we'll be seeing a Nintendo Direct sometime this month.

Brazillian website Universo Nintendo posted an article (which we have translated via Google Translate) claiming that there will be a Nintendo Direct next week. Given that Nintendo Directs usually land on Wednesdays we can imagine that September 13, 2023 will be the date of the new Nintendo Direct, although a Wednesday isn't a given with some recent ones landing on Tuesdays or Thursdays. While it's easy enough to make a guess like that based on past Direct dates, as a user on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit points out, Universo Nintendo has a track record of correctly predicting dates

Universo Nintendo mentions that it isn't sure if it'll be a full-blown Nintendo Direct, a mini Direct, or a partner showcase. Considering Nintendo's release schedule for the rest of the year we could see it being a smaller direct, but given the company doesn't have anything announced for early 2024 we can see a full-blown Direct happening (at least we hope so.)

Direct to the point

Six years into the Nintendo Switch's lifecycle, and Nintendo is putting out one of the strongest end-of-year lineups the console has ever seen, which almost feels like a final hurrah for the system before a potential successor. Despite rumours of the Nintendo Switch 2 being shown off at Gamescom, I absolutely don't expect the next Nintendo console to be announced during a Nintendo Direct based on the way Nintendo has announced consoles in the past. I'm curious to see what titles will be announced for 2024 outside of the previously confirmed Luigi's Mansion 2 remake and Princess Peach game.

Is it finally time for Nintendo to bring The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker and Twilight Princess remasters to the Nintendo Switch? Not to look into it too much, but a Gamecube remaster has been shadow dropped following a Direct both times this year with Metroid Prime Remastered in February and Pikmin 1+2 in June. Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself but it would be nice to see; I'd settle for Metroid Prime 2 Remastered.
