Hollywood superstar Owen Wilson insists that Lionel Messi is having a bigger impact in the United States than Pele!

The Argentine icon's star power was plain to see during Inter Miami's clash with LAFC as A-Listers turned out in force. From Leonardo DiCaprio and Selena Gomez to Prince Harry and LeBron James, the stands at BMO Stadium were brimming with world-famous faces.

Among them was comedy actor Wilson, who appeared to relish the opportunity to watch the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner in the flesh. Now the Marley and Me favourite has reflected on a memorable night under the lights in California.

Of course, the funnyman is used to the experience of fame but even he seemed to be awe-struck by the World Cup winner's allure. Now describing the spectacle, he has compared the arrival of the 37-year-old stateside to that of a legend of yesteryear.

Speaking to Fox News, the Wedding Crashers star described his verdict on how he views the megastar's impact: "I remember as a kid it was such a huge deal when Pele played for the [New York] Cosmos, and it feels like that again with Messi except maybe even bigger.

Although the former Barcelona hero failed to find the net against LAFC, he lived up to his billing with a man-of-the-match display. The Herons eventually earned a crucial 3-1 away victory over their MLS rivals, with Messi contributing two assists.
