Holly Willoughby makes NTAs plea amid fears This Morning stars could be booed

Holly Willoughby has urged her fans to vote for Alison Hammond at the upcoming 28th National Television Awards - amid fears This Morning could be booed if it wins gongs at the glitzy event.
The award show is due to take place in London on Tuesday night - with This Morning nominated for Best Daytime show and Alison nominated for the TV Presenter award. But a frosty reception could be in store for 48-year-old Alison and the This Morning team as public opinion has turned against the once beloved ITV daytime show.
Despite the risk of tension on the immediate horizon, 42-year-old Holly has begged what few fans she may have left to vote for Alison to win the best TV presenter award - where she will be up against Ant and Dec, Martin Lewis, Bradley Walsh and Claudia Winkleman. Holly - whose popularity has nosedived in the past 12 months - made her appeal via a newsletter sent to those who subscribe to her lifestyle website Wylde Moon.
Writing in her letter on Monday, Holly addressed the fact she was back on screens after a long summer break with her family. She wrote: “Having been lucky enough to have this summer break to focus on the children, it’s now lovely to be back on the sofa and there was certainly joy in abundance with Alison Hammond today!”

Highlighting the upcoming awards, she added: “This wonderful lady has been nominated in the best presenter category at tomorrow night’s NTAs and there is still time to vote for her. So, if you’ve ever been filled with joy by The Hammond…and let’s be honest, who hasn’t?!…then you know what to do!”

Holly’s appeal comes amid news that ITV bosses fear This Morning will be booed if it wins an award and talent takes to the stage. Last year, the show won a gong and a huge number of staff crowded the stage alongside the presenters - but steps have been taken to prevent that happening this year.
A source told The Sun: “People are upset at the slimming down, as the show is such a group effort and the awards are usually a big night out for the whole team. They’re blaming the cost of living crisis but seem to be splashing the cash elsewhere.

“It doesn’t help to shut down rumours of a toxic atmosphere. Some people suspect that bosses know it isn’t going to be a stellar year for This Morning after all the scandal.”
An ITV source also told the publication: “There are fewer staff attending this year due to budget cuts.”
In the year since the last NTAs, Holly has become something of a public enemy number one after arrogantly skipping the queue to watch the late Queen Elizabeth II lying in state last year - a decision that sparked fierce criticism. Her close friendship with Phillip Schofield then made her toxic by association when his career imploded earlier this year when it was revealed he had an ‘unwise but not illegal’ affair with a much younger male colleague while married to wife Stephanie Lowe.
Holly was ridiculed when she addressed Phil’s cheating scandal live on This Morning by asking fans watching at home if they were “okay”. And she and Phil both insulted the public intelligence when they claimed she had been oblivious to the affair that was happening behind-the-scenes of the ITV show.
Phil claimed he had lied to Holly about his affair and that she had known nothing about it. He also claimed he texted her to apologise, but she allegedly never replied. His career was torpedoed by the scandal as he admitted he lied to ITV bosses, his own management and his fans with his affair - with his contracts with ITV and his management being terminated as a result.
