Emmerdale star discusses Nicky's mystery mum and teases very tough future twist

Emmerdale's Lewis Cope has had a busy year on the hit ITV soap with several explosive storylines for his character Nicky Miligan, including being the secret son of Caleb Miligan, scamming Kim Tate and faking an engagement to Gabby Thomas.
It's no surprise that actor Lewis has been nominated in the Rising Star category at the upcoming 2023 National Television Awards, which is set to take place on 5 September. And with a slew of dramatic storylines already under his belt, it appears there could be the potential for even more drama for Nicky in the future.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Lewis discussed Nicky's mystery mum, who viewers are yet to see on the hit ITV soap. Soap watchers have been left intrigued over Nicky's mum's identity after the former Home Farm nanny repeatedly mentioned her earlier this year, even claiming his and Caleb's failed plan to steal Kim's money was in part to help out his "mam".

Asked if he would like to see Nicky's mum make an appearance on Emmerdale in the future, Lewis said: "It would be great to see more members of the Miligan family. I think there is potential for so much story there!" Elsewhere during the chat, Lewis revealed what he would like to see happen for Nicky in the next year.
Soap watchers will recall that Nicky was engaged to Gabby as part of his and Caleb's scam to steal Kim's money earlier this year, which seriously backfired. Gabby has been left devastated after discovering Nicky was only using her to get an in at Home Farm and that he is actually gay with Nicky since pursuing a romance with Suni Sharma.

Talking about what he'd like to see for his character Nicky this year, Lewis said: "I would like to see Nicky and Gabby put the past behind them and have some sort of friendship. Very very tough but I hope it can work!" However, it looks as though this could be a long time coming as Friday's episode saw Gabby blackmail Billy Fletcher over their near-kiss, which was initiated by her, insisting he beat up Nicky or she will tell his wife Dawn everything.
Despite being on the ITV soap for less than a year, Lewis has impressively been nominated in the Rising Star category at the upcoming 2023 National Television Awards, alongside the likes of Benjamin Chivers, EastEnders' Bobby Brazier and Corrie's Channique Sterling-Brown. Talking about the achievement, he said: "I'm over the moon! It's nice to be recognised and appreciated."
Soap watchers and TV viewers have until 12 midday on Tuesday 5 September to vote for their favourites at this year's 2023 National Television Awards.
