Earlier today 21-year-old Connor Gibson was found guilty of attacking Amber Gibson in woodland in Hamilton, South Lanarkshire, on November 26 2021, removing her clothes, sexually assaulting with the intention of raping her, inflicting blunt force trauma to her head and body, and strangling her.

He was handed a life sentence and ordered to spend a minimum of 22 years behind bars

Connor Gibson’s father was also jailed earlier this year, for the rape of a 62-year-old woman.

The horrific attack by Peter Gibson included tying his victim up and blindfolding her in East Kilbride, Lanarkshire. Gibson, latterly of Shropshire, was convicted of a total of 10 charges and his crimes spanned between June 2001 and February 2008.

Despite being jailed months ago, reporting of the case was delayed until the end of his son’s murder trial in July.

Brother's chilling Facebook tribute posted days after 'depraved' murder

During his trial, it emerged that Gibson posted a chilling tribute to Facebook days after murdering and sexually assaulting his sister.

On November 30, the day before Gibson was arrested, he wrote: "Amber, you will fly high for the rest of time. We will all miss you. Especially me. I love you ginger midget. GBFN (goodbye for now) X".

Meanwhile, a phone seized from his residence revealed messages sent from his Snapchat account to friends in the early hours of November 27, writing: "I'm really going to need you guys help with something when yous come back. I'm being serious."

A message was then sent to Amber, asking "are you ok?", before another was sent to the same previous friends saying, "nvm (never mind) it's all good".

Teen was 'looking forward' to seeing brother before 'truly evil' attack

Amber was "looking forward" to seeing her brother before being murdered in a "truly evil" attack, the judge said today.

Sentencing Gibson, Lord Mulholland said: "She was looking forward to seeing you, she even posted a selfie on Snapchat. The person she saw last was you, sexually assaulting her with the intent to rape her, breaking her nose and strangling the life out of her.

"What you did was truly evil. Science told the world what you had done to Amber."

Family's heartbreaking tribute to 'loving' and 'admirable' teen

"Amber deserved to live a life of hope and opportunities. As a family, we will never be able to get over how this was taken from her. We are relieved the people involved in what happened to her are now behind bars. However, no amount of time will be justice enough for such a young innocent life."

They described Amber as the "most giving, caring, loving, supportive and admirable person", adding: "She had the most amazing outlook on life considering the suffering she had experienced."

They also told how they listened to evidence detailing "how much Amber and Connor have been let down throughout their lives by the system". The statement continued: "As a family, we all feel this could have been prevented.

"We now have one daughter buried in Larkhall Cemetery and another child in prison. We really miss Amber - life will never be the same." The family also thanked the police, prosecution and others for their support.

Chilling final moments Amber spent with brother before he murdered her in park

Gibson brought his sister to Cadzow Glen, on the night of November 26, 2021, and assaulted her with the intent of raping her, before strangling and beating her.

Chilling video captured the final moments the siblings spent together, as Gibson walked to the park with Amber, then returned home alone. He was also caught on CCTV disposing of items, following the murder.

In the footage, he can be seen taking a bin full of objects out of the Blue Triangle homeless hostel where he was living in Hamilton just before 1am on November 27 2021 - the day after he killed her.

Gibson can be seen leaving through the front door, before walking through a car park with the items. He then gets rid of them out of shot, before walking back to the accommodation with an empty bin. Other footage caught him on the night of the murder, walking home just before midnight, after he had killed Amber.

Man who violated teen's body after finding her is jailed for 9 years

Stephen Corrigan, who intimately touched and concealed Amber's body after discovering her at some point in the two days after her murder, was jailed for nine years at the same court.

The 45-year-old was earlier found guilty of attempting to defeat the ends of justice and breach of the peace after failing to contact the emergency services.

Brother jailed for life with minimum term of 22 years

A brother convicted of murdering and sexually assaulting his sister has been jailed for life with a minimum term of 22 years.

Gibson, 21, was sentenced at the High Court in Livingston on Monday.

He was arrested three days after his sister went missing, on December 1, 2021, and, the day before his arrest, posted a chilling tribute to her, writing on Facebook: "Amber, you will fly high for the rest of time. We will all miss you. Especially me. I love you ginger midget. GBFN (goodbye for now) X."

During the trial, the court heard how evidence from forensic pathologists showed Amber had died as a result of compression of the neck.

Judge Mulholland earlier said: "Your sister - the last person she saw was you strangling her. It was depraved and you will pay a heavy price for that."
