Gorka Márquez has only seen new son Thiago 'a few times' due to Strictly work

Strictly Come Dancing's Gorka Márquez has only seen his newborn son 'a few times' since his birth in July, according to partner Gemma Atkinson. Due a strict scheduele and filming commitments ahead of the new Strictly season, Gorka has been away from home.

The professional dancer has been working 'for months' after ther pair welcomed son Thiago Thomas Marquez, their second child, back in July. Opening up about Gorka's absence on Steph's Packed Lunch on Monday, Gemma admitted it 'was hard'.

"Yeah, he's back in London, he was away for three weeks and then he was home this Friday and Saturday, and he went back down yesterday," she told host Steph McGovern. "He's home at the weekend but once the show starts, depending on where his partner is, he'll have to go [off again]."

After being asked if he's only seen Thiago 'a few times', Gemma replied: "Yeah, when he was born, [Gorka] had a week at home with him and since then he's had three weekends with him, and that's it." She agreed after Steph's commented that it 'must be so hard'. Former show star Gemma, who met Gorka on set in 2017, added: "I always say that every year when they announce [the line-up], the first thing I do, I don't want their height or anything like that, I go 'where are they based?'.

"Because it means he can come home after rehearsals. When he was dancing with Helen [Skelton], she was fabulous, they rehearsed in Penrith, but Helen said 'look I've got kids, I know you've got Mia and how hard it is, let's meet half way'. And they actually rehearsed in Preston, so he was home within about half an hour each night."

Gemma and Gorka confirmed their whirlwind romance on Valentine's Day 2018 before moving in together. In 2019 they welcomed their daughter Mia and on Valentine's Day in 2021, Gorka got down on one knee. They welcomed son Thiago in July. After a month of parenthood, Gorka took to his Instagram page to share adorable snaps of him cradling Thiago. In one snap, the Strictly Come Dancing star kissed his baby's head while the other had him looking proud as he leaned his cheek on Thiago's sleepy head.

"A month with you… Little T," he captioned the sweet post. Fans rushed to the comment section to compliment the father-son duo, with one saying: "You can see the love how adorable." Another follower commented: "Well done to you both parenting is the best thing in the world."
