'I'm a mum of 10 and I spend £300 a month on meat for my steak-loving kids'

A mother-of-10 has shared that she spends £300 on beef alone every month because her family eats so much. Taina Licciardo-Toivola is a Finnish-Australian mum who has created a name for herself on social media thanks to her big brood's synchronised habits, such as the fact they all wear white t-shirts and eat the same meals together.
The busy woman is mum to Leonardo, 24, Cleopatra, 22, Jerusalem, 21, Romeo, 19, D'Artagnan, 15, Shakespeare, 12, Nefertiti, eight, KingJames, seven, Aphrodite, six, and Omega, five. The family have previously shared that Shakespeare is usually the designated cook because of his impressive skills. According to them, he has the process of cooking meat anywhere from rare to well done "down to a fine art".

"Butchers were actually interested [in how a young boy cooks steak]," Taina said in a video about the family's eating habits. Of course they would be, we go there every month and buy about $600 worth of meat." This amounts to slightly over £300 a month, but Taina claimed that occasionally she can spend as much as £200 on meat for a single week. Even the young children enjoy feasting on steak and potato dinners on a regular basis. The family "refuses" to eat any pig products, such as sausages or bacon, and mostly consumes beef.
Since they all consume so much meat, Romeo said they separate their ground beef into kilo packages and wrap it in clingfilm so it can easily stack up and take up less space in the freezer. He spends about three hours doing this following each visit to the butcher. Since the Licciardo-Toivola family lives in Australia, they have the luxury of being about to enjoy frequent outdoor feasts and eat together most nights. "We don't eat the same meals every day," Jerusalem explained. "But for us, we could eat every day like this. I eat 5,000 calories a day and I don't get anywhere. Doesn't matter what I do, I don't gain weight."
This is worlds away from what their meals were like previously, as for six years they were all following a plant-based diet. In 2021 Taina uploaded a video to her YouTube channel where she showed what their fridge looked like after they'd been to the grocery store. The family bought 20 cucumbers which they would pickle, juice or eat raw. Taina would buy 11 cartons of oat milk, to use in chia pudding or porridge; 10 courgettes; six bunches of bananas; three bags of kale, to make into dehydrated 'chips'; six packs of celery; three big bags of onions and three big bags of avocado.

The family also unpacked "a lot of spinach", which they make into pesto or put on their pizza and bought about 50 tomatoes, for making pasta sauce, as well as vegan 'cheese' and sausages. "Broccoli causes fights in our house, we have had little children rip broccoli out of another child's mouth," Taina said previously. "We didn't have much processed stuff there, we don't like to eat much processed food."
