Salah's agent's silence on Saudi bid speaks volumes amid Liverpool unrest

It's been shut down by Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool more than once now, but speculation linking Mohamed Salah with a transfer to the Saudi Pro League continues to linger around Anfield.

The Reds talisman, 31, is no stranger to speculation: just last summer he put pen-to-paper on an improved contract to quash rumours that he was poised to complete a blockbuster transfer to one of Europe's leading lights.

Barely 12 months on, though, and it feels like we're right back where we started. Al-Ittihad are determined to make Salah their marquee summer signing and even bid £150million for his services on deadline day last week. While that proposal was swiftly rejected, the Saudi Pro League outfit are expected to return with a world-record bid before their transfer window closes on Thursday.

But while Klopp and the club have both publicly and privately reiterated their stance that Salah is not for sale, the Egyptian and his camp have not come out to scotch speculation as they did earlier in the summer.

Salah's agent, Ramy Abbas, rubbished claims that his client was planning to quit Anfield on social media last month, saying: "If we considered leaving LFC this year, we wouldn’t have renewed the contract last summer. Mohamed remains committed to LFC."

Abbas has been noticeably silent, though, since Al-Ittihad firmed up their interest by lodging a huge offer with Liverpool. Furthermore, The Athletic claim that the player's camp were not denying reports that Salah has agreed personal terms with his mega-rich suitors, who are reportedly ready to offer him a package worth £1.5m-a-week.

The fact that there is now nothing coming out from Salah's camp, just weeks after Abbas was vocal, will only heighten the unrest at Liverpool ahead of the Saudi transfer deadline on Thursday.

Liverpool new boy Dominik Szoboszlai insisted on Saturday that Salah was set to stay at Anfield, while long-term team-mate Andrew Robertson has also played down suggestions that Salah could try and force through a lucrative transfer this week.

Klopp and Liverpool owners FSG are clear: Salah is not for sale regardless of the size of the bids on offer from Al-Ittihad. However, there are bound to still be a few nerves in and around Anfield until the Saudi transfer window shuts on Thursday evening.
