Strictly's Adam Thomas trying to 'stay positive' in update on chronic condition

Adam Thomas says he's trying to "stay positive" after being diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis in August.
The Waterloo Road star, 35, will be strutting his stuff later this month on Strictly Come Dancing and told fans that while this year has "been tough", he's not going to let his health set him back. Sharing a snap of himself with his son Teddy, daughter Elsie Rose and wife, Caroline on his Instagram page, he wrote: "What a day it’s been!!!! So many emotions right now, its all starting to get real!! Nothing better after a long day, coming home to these two-waiting at the door for me!!
"Think they are going to enjoy this adventure more than me! Haha I can do this !! Stay positive adam haha."

The brother of Coronation Street star, Ryan Thomas, also shared a snap of himself flexing his muscles as he admitted he was going to "stay strong", despite being in pain. Captioning the photo, Adam wrote: "A very rare sight … me with my top off ! But I need to get comfortable feeling uncomfortable! Am not in the best shape of my life but,I could be worse. This year has been tough there’s no doubt about that… but I’ve just got to stay focused now! I’m still struggling and the pain is still there but I’m putting on a brave face I’ve got to stay strong!!"
The actor added that swimming is helping him with his arthritis, explaining the sport allows him to "deal with the issues I’ve got with me and my body. Which is a good thing!" Adam's positive post was warmly received by his followers, as one wrote: "Can’t wait to watch, pretty sure you’ll smash it," as someone else added: "Yay!!! Let’s go!!! So so proud."

The Emmerdale star was revealed as one of Strictly Come Dancing's stars competing for the Glitterball trophy earlier this summer. But, shortly after the dad-of-two was unveiled as part of the line-up, he took to social media revealing he had been diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, admitting he thought the condition was something people got when they were older.
Adam shared: "As much as I act like a kid, my body is telling another story… I’ve been in a lot of pain since January, it started with my knees and then traveled to my wrists, fingers and now ankles and toes. I never knew what was happening and finally after several blood tests and back and forth to doctors and hospitals, I’ve been diagnosed with rheumatoid Arthritis! I thought that was something people, later on in their life get… but that’s not the case, clearly!"
The NHS describes rheumatoid arthritis as a 'long-term condition that causes pain, swelling and stiffness in the joints' with the main affected areas being the hands, feet and wrists, which can make everyday tasks challenging.
