'Tory fantasists posing as magicians who can fix us are twisting in the wind'
Pretending we’ve never had it so good won’t wash for Rishi Sunak and Jeremy Hunt for 1001 reasons.
Voters see and feel the truth of life in Britain from savagely squeezed living standards to crumbling, closed schools and an NHS on its knees. People know their tormentors are headed by the out-of-touch Prime Minister and a Chancellor of the Exchequer suddenly posing as magicians, laughably posturing as miracle workers reviving the country.
The dots are joined by 72% believing Britain is broken, including 58% of Tories, all the while their party is screaming it’s the saviour. The truth is their 13 year in power have been years of unrelenting decline. If it ain’t fixed now, they won’t do it. If it’s smashed, the Tories might have wielded the hammer.
Tory billionaire former deputy chair Michael Ashcroft’s increasing excuses, shows a blue tribe disintegrating. No bounce in the polls will be banked from ONS statisticians finding lost growth down the back of the sofa when folk feel worse off, not better off.

Belatedly ruling the UK economy is now larger than before the pandemic won’t put extra pounds in purses and wallets. The grim reality is GDP rising 0.5% since the start of 2022 is barely growth at all and the revised stats leave Britain in the slow lane.

We’ve fallen behind the OECD industrialised nations’ average over the past four years. Lower living standards and the worst wage stagnation since Napoleonic times are the real economy, stupid. Slasher Hunt spinning he’ll spend what it takes to stop ceilings falling onto school kids is contemptible when cutting rather than investing is why those same pupils are ordered to stay at home. The same applies to the NHS.
Higher spending now is unable to halt record waiting list increases. These are down to the Tories squeezing the life from our most precious public service with the tightest financial straightjacket in history. From record net migration and those ongoing Channel crossings to strikes that would be cheaper to settle, everywhere the Tories have messed up. Brexit and the Tory bad deal are the rancid cherry on a rotten Conservative cake.
Few will buy into Sunak and Hunt’s fantasy world. We live the truth daily. Decency, fairness, respect, opportunity, prosperity for all and security aren’t the Tory way. They’ve proved that. It’s why the country wants change and Labour’s poll leads remain big.
