Woman killed and child injured after being hit by Ford Fiesta as driver arrested

A woman in her 20s was killed and a young child injured after being hit by a car before a man was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The horror smash took place on Saturday night in Church Hill, Kent, and involved a man driving a Ford Fiesta. The woman was rushed to hospital but later pronounced dead as the child suffered non-serious injuries.
Local police confirmed that they later arrested a man after the crash, which took place around 9.30pm, and that he remains in custody. Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are investigating what took place and want anyone who might have witnessed the incident to contact them.
In a statement, Kent Police said: "Witnesses are sought following a fatal collision in Charing Heath. At around 9.24pm on Saturday 2 September 2023, a collision involving a red Ford Fiesta and two pedestrians took place in Church Hill. Kent Police officers attended along with South East Coast Ambulance Service and a woman in her 20s was taken to hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. A child was also taken to hospital with non-serious injuries. A man was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and he remains in custody.
"Officers from the SCIU are carrying out enquiries and would like to hear from anyone who might have witnessed the collision. They are also appealing for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage taken in the area around the time to come forward."
