Plane passengers baffled as dad asks pilot to 'fly around a bit' to calm son

Taking children on a flight can be difficult for parents, as they often don't want to sit still for hours on end and it can be a headache trying to get them to settle for important parts of the journey such as take-off and landing. But one dad left plane passengers baffled recently when he suggested that the pilot simply "fly around for a bit longer" before landing so that he could have more time to get his toddler-aged son to sit down.
A passenger on the flight said that the dad had two children with him who were both being "a little boisterous" and kept standing up in their seats, and when the time came for everyone to fasten their seatbelts ready for landing, one of his kids refused to sit down. When approached by a flight attendant, the dad refused to take control of the situation and demanded the flight's landing be delayed for "another half an hour" to let his son tire himself out.
In a post on Reddit, the gobsmacked passenger recalled: "A couple of days ago, I was flying from the UK to Central Europe. There was a dad a few rows ahead of me who sat in the aisle seat with his two toddler-aged kids (I'd guess between 18 months and two years old) taking the middle and window seats. The kids were a little boisterous, standing on seats and generally being a bit loud, but it was a relatively short flight and I had headphones, so whatever.
"As we're preparing to land (as in, we'll be on the ground within five to 10 minutes) the flight attendant notices that one of the toddlers is still standing on the chair. She approached the dad and asked him to sit the child down and fasten his seat belt. The dad refuses and says he's tried but his son doesn't want to. The fight assistant spends the next few minutes explaining exactly why his child needs to be sat down with the dad refusing.
"The attendant was clearly getting more and more frustrated when the dad asked if we could just fly around for a bit longer so he could settle his son (cue 'what the f**k' looks from everyone listening to what was going on). Clearly, the attendant refused and said we were landing now. The dad tried a few more times to convince the attendant to just give him another half an hour before realising that wasn't going to happen and finally getting his now screaming son fastened in his seat. We landed less than two minutes later."

Commenters on the post were equally baffled by the dad's behaviour, with some branding him "entitled" for expecting the pilot to cave to his demands and delay the flight. One person said: "That's next-level entitlement, all right," while another posted: "I don't want to believe this could happen but I do. Imagine the audacity to think the plane should circle for a half hour while you persuade your toddler to put on a seatbelt."
