Jimmy Buffett dies aged 76 leaving '$1bn fortune' - as heartfelt tribute posted
The singer Jimmy Buffett has passed away aged 76, according to a statement posted on his social media.
The news was announced in a post on his X account - formerly known as Twitter - earlier. The statement read: "Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1 surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs."
It was accompanied by a photo of the award-winning singer on a boat. The statement in the post on the platform continued: He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many."
Jimmy enjoyed a decades-long career in the music industry, with him known for songs like Margaritaville. He's worked on other ventures over the years too and according to Forbes had a net worth of around $1 billion (around £795,000,000).
Jimmy, who performed alongside his band Coral Reefer Band, is known for songs like Margaritaville, Come Monday and Cheeseburger in Paradise. He also released songs such as A Pirate Looks at Forty and Volcano.

And although his signature songs were released earlier in his career, his highest charting albums were released in the noughties.
They include License to Chill, which topped the Billboard 200 in the US when it was released back in 2004. Prior to the news of his passing, it was reported that he was preparing to release his new album Equal Strain on all Parts.
Aside from his music career, Jimmy was also a best-selling author, having released novels like A Salty Piece of Land. He's said to have also had two restaurant chains named after two of his signature songs. He reportedly owned the Margaritaville Cafe restaurant chain and co-developed the Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant chain, which is now defunct.
The tweet announcing Jimmy's passing has already amassed thousands of likes. It also prompted fans on the platform to pay tribute and express their condolences, with some reminiscing about the late singer's music.
One person reacted to the news: "Truly heartbreaking. RIP to a legend like no other." Another said: "May your soul rest in peace, Jimmy. Thank you for the many years of music that you have blessed this world with. May your memory live on forever."
