Early life
Joining the cast of BBC drama Line of Duty and most recently Coronation Street, as a child, Darren probably thought this was perhaps simply a pipe dream.
Corrie's Sue Cleaver says I'm A Celebrity stint helped her to push boundariesBut undeterred, he kept his head down with his career plans firmly etched in his mind. Brought up in Hartlepool, a seaside and port town in County Durham, Darren was a studious teenager as he finished his A-Levels. After completing his studies, he then packed his bags and headed to London where he studied acting at the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, graduating in 1997.
Family
Darren's family life is relatively private but what we do know is the well-renowned actor is actually married to actress Helen Latham, who is best known for her role in Footballers' Wives as Lucy Milligan. But the pair appear to keep themselves to themselves and, unlike other couples in the same industry, they don't brandish their relationship all over social media for the world to see.
The couple first met at Darren's theatre school Mountview in 1995 and by 2004, they tied the knot among close friends and family. Helen is probably best known for playing Lucy Milligan in series four and five of the popular drama Footballers' Wives. But she has also appeared in The Bill and the Liverpool based soap Brookside.
Career path and Hollywood role
Soon after graduating from Mountview theatre school, Darren landed his first major TV role in Dream Team, which was a football drama series. After starring 71 episodes he left in 1998. But it didn't take long for him to land another role in Grafters, where he played a character called Simon Purvis for 15 episodes.
After appearing in a number of small roles including Silent Witness, Holby City and Casualty, in 2012, Darren became part of the iconic cast of Line Of Duty for a few episodes in series one. But his acting ability earned him a few stripes as he was then picked to star in Star Wars: The Last Jedi in 2017. And obviously now, having taken a break from Hollywood, he joins the legendary cast of ITV's soap Coronation Street.
