Body of boy, 2 found at landfill site as dad is arrested on suspicion of murder
A body has been found in the search for a missing toddler believed to have been kidnapped by his father.
J'Asiah Mitchell, two, was found in a garbage facility by police in East Point, Georgia on August 23. The body had been there for a number of days, police said.
Little J'Asiah's remains were not identified until yesterday after an examination by the Fulton County medical examiner. His father Artavious North, 23, is now facing a murder charge after DeKalb County Police claimed the man's story his son was kidnapped during an armed robbery was a lie.
He is expected to face charges of murder, concealing the death of another and cruelty to children.
Police said North was not in DeKalb County on the night he reported the incident. Recent reports indicate North was in custody and investigators previously told Fox he was a person of interest in the case.

J’Asiah’s grandmother Leriesa Mitchell appealed to the public during the search for the missing boy. She told WSTB-TV: "My daughter wants to look for her son, so that’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to look wherever she wants to look, wherever she wants to go. Whatever idea she comes up with and thinks she might need to go check it out, we’re right behind her."
It comes as another boy in Pennsylvania was found in a dumpster, forcing police to hunt for a shooting suspect.
Hezekiah Bernard was found in a dumpster in West Philadelphia on August 23 by a sanitation worker. The body was found inside a closed plastic container. The sanitation worker found the container the night before, but did not open it until the following day.
"During the drive, the container overturned and the remains of a male were observed inside that container with a plastic wrap around the head and with a comforter over him," Staff Inspector Ernest Ransom said.
It is believed Bernard died between 24 and 36 hours before his body was discovered.
"Like any parent, it hurts to see a young man or woman dead on the street at the prime of your life," Ransom said. "That's why it's so important to bring these people to justice."
Tributes by friends and family have been paid publicly to the 12-year-old.
"I thought he just wasn't answering the phone, but I wind up finding out he was dead and they put him in a dumpster. Like that was out of pocket and it really hurt," said Jyshair Montgomery, 16, told Fox at a balloon release in the child's memory.
