Brits have been told to brace themselves for potential flooding before the weather takes a brighter turn on the weekend.

On Friday, the Met Office issued flood warnings across the country, while other parts could experience damp and cloudy weather.

It has been reported that 15 parts of the UK are set to be hit with the disruptive floods, with 50 locations listed as a high possibility, according to Gov UK.

But shortly after, Brits can expect to ditch the umbrellas for sunglasses instead as the country is expected to bask in 24C sunshine - making temperatures higher than Portugal.

Locals on the Cumbrian coastline, the North Sea coast, Poole Harbour, the north Cornwall coast, the south Cornwall coast and Somerset coast have been told to prepare for the wet conditions. Forecasters have also warned residents in Essex, Devon, Morecambe and Norfolk.

Luckily, the weather is expected to lighten throughout today, with forecasters reporting highs of 23C for the south, reports The Sun. Meanwhile, the north is expected to reach 21C. On Saturday, temperatures in London will climb to a delightful 24C, compared to Faro, Portugal which will only hit 23C with thunderstorms.

Areas in Wales and the north of England are expected to be not far behind - with the forecast listed as 22C. Scotland is also expected to be in the low 20s with "plenty of warm sunshine." Forecasters have predicted that the warmer conditions should remain next week.

Meteorologist Alex Deakin commented: "Drier, sunnier, warmer weather is on the way for the weekend, but the charts initially don't look too promising. We've got low pressure sitting across the UK and another one up towards the northwest.

"Quite an intense warm this, it's heading its way up towards Greenland. And actually that one is allowing high pressure to topple in further south and oust the low that's sitting across us at the moment. And this high will bring many of us a fine weekend and probably into the early part of next week as well."
