Alison Hammond's plan to topple Ant and Dec after Holly's This Morning snub
This Morning star Alison Hammond has launched an online campaign to ensure that she beats Ant and Dec in the catagory of TV presenter at this year's National Television Awards.
The 48 year old star, who first shot to fame in 2002 after appearing on Big Brother, is the only female presenter within her catagory as she goes up against big hitters including Bradley Walsh and Graham Norton. However, over the years Alison has become one of the nation's favourites due to her contagious laugh and impeccable presenting skills. And this is perhaps why she took to her social media to encourage her 1.4M followers to vote for her to win - which could be the first time presenting duo Ant and Dec miss out on the coveted gong since 2001.
Taking to her Instagram account Alison posted a few pictures asking for fans to vote ahead of the awards in a few days. In one picture, she is seen dressed in a glamorous black gown stood next to a number of BAFTA awards. She captioned that post saying: "Time to vote for the nation's Queen of TV." And in another, she teased fans with a picture of the NTA catagory on screen and told fans: "There's still time to vote!!!" alongside a "click here to vote" link.
If Alison's attempts pay off, this will be an achievement veteran presenters Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield have been unable to accomplish. Both Hollly and Phil failed to land a nomination at this year's NTAs but the popular morning show has been nominated in the Daytime TV catagory alongside Loose Women, The Chase and The Repair Shop.
And while many have remained silent over Holly and Phil's shock snub, the show's host Joel Dommett came forward to give his opinion on the matter. Speaking to Mail online of Alison's nomination, Joel said: "I'm so happy for her (Alison) to see her on that list is absolutely fantastic."
Phillip Schofield mocks Molly-Mae's baby name in cruel swipe at Love Island starHowever, doing his best to not take away from Holly after seemingly supporting Alsion's nomination, he added that while he was presenting alongside Holly on This Morning, he felt he learnt so much from her due to her professionalism. It comes as no surprise that Phil had not been shortlisted for the TV presenter award after it emerged back in May this year, that he had an affair with a younger male ITV employee and lied to cover it up.
His admission came after reports surfaced that alleged that he had been inapproprite with a TV runner. But Phil stated that his relationship with the ITV employee was "unwise but not illegal." And in a statement to the Daily Mail he said he "met the man when he was a teenager and was asked to help him to get into television".
At the time and ITV spokesman said they were "deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit" and admitted to have cut all ties with the 61 year old presenter. And it was also at this time that the British public has started to turn against Holly as they believed that she knew about Phil's relationship with the ITV employee and chose to keep silent - a claims which Holly denies.
