Selena Gomez recently released the single life anthem Single Soon, but she has some ideas on what she wants from a relationship in the future.

Selena has shared her requirements for a future partner. She said: "You gotta be cool, man. Not cool in the sense that people think you're cool. You just gotta be nice and like, please make me laugh, and also just be good to my family and people around you."

One of her lines in Single Soon is "I know I'm a little high maintenance," which she addressed in an interview with SiriusXM Hits 1 LA with Tony Fly and Symon. She now says her description of herself as "high maintenance" wasn't completely true. "I think I have standards. And I think I live in a world right now where boys confuse standards with high maintenance," the singer explained. She added her love of the lyric, saying: "But the line was really fun because I'm not ashamed to say, 'I actually require X, Y, and Z for you to be with me.'"

The Only Murders in the Building actress said she knows what she wants for a future relationship, but is enjoying the single life. "I think everybody goes through the phase of, 'oh, it'd be nice to like have someone,' and I get that," she said. "But I'm just enjoying where I'm at and I just want to be happy with who I am so that whenever that person comes into my life, I can just have them add on to me instead of being this insecure person that I normally used to be."

The opening verse of the song goes: "Should I do it on the phone? Should I leave a little note in the pocket of his coat? (Yeah) / Maybe I'll just disappear / I don't wanna see a tear / And the weekend's almost here." People think that Selena is referencing her ex-boyfriend, The Weeknd, in that last line. The two dated for ten months in 2017.

Others think that the song could be referencing her famous relationship with fellow singer Justin Bieber. The two had an eight-year on-off again relationship that has been a subject in both of their music careers. However, when a fan asked Selena if it was about the Love Yourself singer, she shut down the rumour writing it "couldn't be more false."

The Wizards of Waverly Place star took to Instagram a few days ago to explain what the song is really about. She said: "It's a playful anthem about being comfortable in your own skin and loving your own company… and it's also really fun to dance to!"
