It was the picture that Liverpool fans were lauding after their dramatic win over Newcastle on Sunday - but all wasn't quite as it seemed.

Everything seemed to be going wrong for Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool during the first half at St James' Park, with Anthony Gordon pouncing on Trent Alexander-Arnold's early error to put the hosts ahead. And things went from bad to worse when Virgil van Dijk was red carded after preventing Alexander Isak from going clean through on goal.

That decision seemingly incensed Klopp, who reacted by ranting and raving from his technical area. The eccentric Tindall, now notorious for enjoying the limelight, then goaded the German boss by putting his finger to his lips and gesturing he should be quiet.

It backfired spectacularly, with Liverpool substitute Darwin Nunez producing two late finishes to snatch a remarkable three points for the Reds. And the celebrations of Klopp and his players were predictably wild, with vice-captain Alexander-Arnold later hailing it was one of the squad's best ever wins.

And sure enough, an image soon went viral of Klopp responding in kind to Tindall and co, seemingly also putting his finger to his lips to get the last laugh. The picture was first posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, by @LewVisualss, and was duly shared by the likes of Jamie Carragher, @sportbible and numerous Liverpool and football-based accounts.

The creator himself later posted a picture clarifying his snap had been mocked up, writing: "The whole of twitter have no idea." He even shared the original, proving the arm had been photoshopped onto a smiling Klopp after it went 2-1.

But some media outlets clearly didn't pick up on fun and games, with one national newspaper opting to include the image of Klopp - complete with the 'shush' gesture ' on it's back page on Monday morning.

@LewVisualss himself humorously noted the development, writing on Sunday evening: "Sitting here knowing an elderly Scouse bloke is going to read the papers tomorrow morning and think Klopp shushed him back has made my night."

By 8.30pm on Sunday night, he had also written: "Had 26k followers 2 hours ago." As of Monday morning, that figure had risen to 28,500 following his new found fame.

The Twitter bio of the catalyst for the fun reads "Graphic Designer / Available for Freelance work." And offers could well now come flooding in now his expertise has been showcased, with thousands of social media users conceding they too were hoodwinked.

"This might be the most iconic fake photo in football," wrote one, while another noted: "How an edited image can fool the world." The image has now been tagged with the line: "This photo of Jurgen Klopp has been digitally altered by X user Lewvisualss."
