Former Peterborough star Gabriel Zakuani has released an emotional statement following the death of his sister, Admira, aged 27.
Zakuani, who hosts the BBC Match of the Day Africa: Top 10 podcast, confirmed the sad and 'unexpected' news on Thursday evening. Admira passed away last Friday, with the ex-professional footballer thanking fans for their support on social media.
Zakuani tweeted: "Been very quiet on here the past week, my little sister Admira sadly and unexpectedly passed away in the early hours last Friday at 27 years old.
"I do not wish the pain me and my family are currently suffering on anyone. Mentally challenging but thanking those that have checked in on me."
Several of Zakuani's former clubs have offered their condolences on social media. "We are so sorry for your loss Gabriel," tweeted Leyton Orient, the club where he started his career. "Our thoughts are with you and your family at this very sad time."
Solskjaer agrees with Maguire that Man Utd have lost another "leader"Zakuani spent a season with Northampton towards the end of his 500-plus-game career. The Cobblers added: "Sincere condolences Gabriel - sending our very best wishes to you and your family."
The defender helped Stoke achieved promotion to the Premier League in 2008. The Potters continued: "We're so sorry for your loss, Gabriel. Sending all our love and best wishes to you and your family."
Zakuani spent much of his career with Peterborough, helping the Posh win two promotions to the Championship. The club's press officer Phil Adlam has told the ex-footballer: "So sorry. If there is anything we can do, you only have to reach out."
Zakuani's former Swindon team-mate Tom Broadbent is one of many footballers to offer their support to the grieving star. He tweeted: "So sorry to hear this mate, sending love to you and your family."

Fans have also offered their support to Zakuani. One tweeted: "Really sorry to read that Gabs. Terrible news. Love to you and your family and you know you'll always have the love and support of the wider Posh family."
Zakuani also played for Fulham, Gillingham, Dagenham & Redbridge and Greek side Kalloni during his career before retiring in September 2020. The 37-year-old represented DR Congo at international level, winning 29 senior caps.
Zakuani hosts the Match of the Day Africa: Top 10 podcast alongside Manchester City legend Yaya Toure and Wimbledon hero Efan Ekoku. The trio started the BBC show in July and discuss all things African football.
