Former Great British Bake Off winner John Whaite has revealed the gross revenge attack he had planned for Lorraine Kelly after he was axed from her ITV show.
The baking star stunned viewers as he appeared on the morning chat show and hit out at host Lorraine, following his "bitter" exit. John appeared alongside stand-in presenter Christine Lampard as he shared his experience of working on the show. He said: "When you are at those dizzying heights of excitement, of being with people you really like working with, of external validation, we are all quite vulnerable people. There's this massive crashing low.
"I speak very honestly about life after Bake Off and how that made me quite bitter. I used to work for Lorraine and when that came to an end I was so bitter about it. I wanted to sneak into Lorraine’s house and sew prawns into her curtains! I thought it was personal. But I realise now that it’s not, it’s just the way of the world, it’s the way of the industry.
"After Strictly, I started to have this feeling of emptiness and I started to self-destruct. I drank too much, I almost ruined my relationship with Paul and luckily, because I’m in a relationship with Paul now for 15 years where we pride ourselves with honesty and communication and accepting that we don’t own each other, we live alongside each other and we’re so lucky to do so."
John stunned fans when he confessed to cheating on his fiancé Paul with "soap stars and celebrities" after finding fame, amid his admission that he briefly split from his partner after his 2021 stint on Strictly Come Dancing. He admitted he split from his fiancé after "falling in love" with his professional partner Johannes Radebe on the BBC dancing show. John shot to fame when he won the popular baking programme in 2021 when he was aged 23 and still at university.
Strictly's Molly Rainford and Tyler West fuel romance rumours while on tourHe had been with his now fiancé Paul Atkins for five years at that time and has shared how he "tested boundaries" of their relationship. Upon finding fame, John was catapulted into a world of "freebies, champagne hampers, meals out and holidays" as well as screen tests, red carpets, parties and a six-figure book deal. John also confessed in the interview that he developed feelings for his dance partner whilst on Strictly. The baker and Johannes, 36, made show history when they became the first same-sex couple to take to the dance floor.
Opening up about his experiencetoThe Times,he said he fell in love with Johannes and that he still does love him. After he left the show, John said he spent "some time apart" from Paul, who moved back in with his parents, while John "sat on the patio, drinking bottle after bottle of sauvignon blanc". However, the couple patched up their differences and are now engaged. John revealed he and Johannes still keep in touch, but insisted he would "cut all contact" if it became "tricky" for Paul.
Lifting the lid on his jealous tendencies in his new book, John penned: “Johannes knew that [the Strictly curse] could happen. He had seen it a thousand times with his dance companions over the years. When you are physically pressed against another man for ten hours a day, things move emotionally. He was being cautious. Strictly has a magical way of revealing the truth.
“For a while, Paul and I had to have some time apart. I felt like I didn’t know what I wanted from my existence any more. Paul had moved back with his parents and I thought to myself ‘What the hell are you doing?’ I was making that childhood premonition of growing old alone come true. Fourteen years in a solid relationship with a man who loves me unconditionally, a man who would move the earth to make me feel safe and I was p***ing all over it.”
