Victor Troicki was watching on, in his current capacity as a coach, during the US Open qualifying rounds as his player Hamad Medjedovic was in action seeking to main the main draw.
The former world number 12 was on Court 5 watching compatriot Medjedovic take on Croatian Borna Gojo. when a fan reportedly laid into an expletive-laden rant
It is claimed Troicki turned to a fan behind him and asked that he tone down his support for Gojo. A move which made the fan furious as footagehas emerged showing him being held back by another spectator from going after the 2010 Davis Cup winner.
“Get off me, this is f–king private,” the man yelled. However he was just getting started as continued: “If you can’t take somebody cheering against your f–kng player.
“This is the US Open, there’s 12 million f–king people in this city! We are all f–king loud! F–king clown.” Troicki kept his cool and tried to reason with the spectator who continued to lose his temper and kept trying to pull away from the man who was holding him back.

“Get the f*** off me. This has nothing to do with drinking beer,” the fan continued as a woman called security to help diffuse the situation. “We're cheering, you d***,” he added. “It's New York, not f***ing Serbia.” Boos reigned down from the crowd as an onlooker could be heard saying: “Dude come on! That’s a former player man! You’re talking to Viktor Troicki come on man stop!”
The fan defended his behavior and pointed to Troicki, saying, “This a–h–e told me to shut up.” Trying to justify his actions, he said it was a “gorgeous f***ing day, and it's a free tournament” to another spectator before he was eventually removed from the stands. It was double disappointment for Troicki as Medjedovic, whom he has coached since 2022, was defeated by Gojo 5-7 7-6(7) 4-6 to advance to the second round of qualifying.
From Monday their compatriot and tennis legend Novak Djokovic will compete in his first US Open since 2021 after missing the 2022 tournament due to his coronavirus vaccine status. On his last visit, the Serbian reached the final and was just three sets away from winning all four Grand Slams in the same year.

His closest challenger this year is world No.1 and defending US Open champion, Carlos Alcaraz, who has won six titles in 2023 after claiming his maiden Grand Slam title with victory in New York last year over Casper Ruud.
Alcaraz added a second major with victory over Djokovic in a classic Wimbledon final earlier this year, and the pair met again in Cincinnati last week, where Djokovic prevailed in a thriller.
