Buying a new smartphone can often set you back by hundreds (if not thousands!) of pounds ...and that's not even when trying to buy the latest flagship model. Thankfully, the team at Sky has decided to make things a little more affordable, dropping more than £300 off some of its most popular phones.

The brand, better known for its paid-for telly than pay monthly phone deals, has launched a hefty price drop on all its smartphones, but only if you add one essential item to the checkout too. What's the catch? You'll need to opt for its 80GB 5G data plan.

Yes, it's all thanks to Sky Mobile's Exclusive Transfer Deadline Day deal, which drops the total price of handsets by £360 when taken out with its 80GB of data plan. Usually, £33 per month – the latest deal drops that to just £18 per month.

As the name suggests, the Exclusive Transfer Deadline Day deal is linked to the upcoming Premier League transfer window and is designed to promote Sky Mobile's on-the-go sports coverage.

Sky Mobile discounts any data used by its own apps (Sky Go, Sky Sports, Sky News) from your monthly 5G data allowance, so you can stream unlimited boxsets or Premier League fixtures without dropping a single megabyte from your 80GB plan. For those on the move, who want to catch the latest telly and sports – this is a phenomenal offer, and saves you from spending a small fortune for an unlimited data plan with other providers.

To get started with the discount, shoppers need to choose their device, be it the latest flagship phone from Samsung or Apple (or an older handset, like the iPhone SE for smaller monthly bills), choose the storage size for the device, and then click Add To Basket as normal.

Once buyers have chosen their device they'll be taken straight through to the money-saving part of the deal, where the adjacent data options pop up. Despite not showing for all handsets on Sky Mobile's landing page, it is available to choose from all devices.

The newest Galaxy Z Flip5, for instance, is branded on the deals site as including a free watch worth more than £289 but once shoppers click into it and add the data they'll make an extra saving of £360 thanks to the 80GB price drop - A win-win offer.

Another Samsung phone included in the offer is the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the biggest device in the brand's latest S Series. Shoppers would pay £45 a month for the handset and then save an extra £360 with the £18 a month (additional) 80GB of data deal.

Apple's iPhone 14 range is also included with the standard model costing a total of £43 a month (for the handset and 80GB data deal) which comes to a full total of £1,075. The iPhone Pro Max is also listed under the deal, as is any smartphone, but it's currently out of stock with the provider - this deal may have potentially influenced that.

As the name of the deal may suggest, shoppers have until this coming September 1 (the Premier League transfer deadline) to buy the handsets at this reduced price, before the 80GB plan rises back to its £33 a month price tag.

Prices at other retailers

Of course, it wouldn't be a deal if it wasn't one of the cheapest places to buy the handset, so we've rounded up a small list of handsets available with the likes of O2 and EE who offer a plan close to Sky's 80GB plan.

Starting with O2 who list the iPhone 14 with 25GB of data for £44.61 a month with an initial upfront fee of £30, coming to a total of £1,335.96. EE prices on the handset start at £51 a month with the closest data deal to Skys 80GB (the 125GB plan) costing £63 a month with an upfront fee of £30 too.
