A man has been killed and two other people have been rushed to hospital after a horror collision with a car on a busy road in central London.

The pedestrian who died was hit by the car at around 8.22pm on Kensington High Street, south of Hyde Park, said the Metropolitan Police.

Emergency services rushed to the incident but despite their best efforts the male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene, reported MyLondon.

London Ambulance Service said they treated two further people before taking them to hospital.

A heavy emergency services presence remains into the night according to eyewitnesses, with police, firefighters, ambulance workers and air ambulance workers all at the scene.

Witnesses said there were more than 10 police cars that attended the incident while motorists were told to avoid the area and use different routes.

Police confirmed the driver of the car stopped at the scene. The road was expected to remain closed for some time and drivers are being warned to seek alternative routes.

An eyewitness told of their shock after hearing the accident on Kensington High Street.

The Twitter user wrote that they had gone shopping when the crash happened.

"All of a sudden a big noise. A pedestrian has been hit by a car and died," said a witness, who described the incident as "shocking."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 8.23pm today (February 23) to reports of a road traffic collision on Kensington High Street, W8.
